S'Cool Sounds Receives $50,000 Challenge Grant

With the New York City public schools experiencing drastic cuts to their arts budgets, S'Cool Sounds continues to build community through music by providing free or low cost music lessons throughout the City. These life-changing programs are made possible by the generosity of our supporters. This year, we are thrilled to announce that we have received a $50,000 challenge grant toward our annual giving campaign!

To match this goal by the end of 2023, we need your help! Check out what your contribution can do:

Students joyfully playing ukulele in a classroom
  • $15,000 funds a full-year SCS music residency for an entire grade in a NYC public school.

  • $5,000 puts a ukulele in the hands of every fourth grader at a NYC public school.

  • $1,500 buys a permanent percussion collection for a NYC public school.

  • $250 buys a soprano recorder for all second graders at a NYC public school.

Board President Richard Pace shares, "As a student in the New York City public schools, I was afforded the opportunity to receive music lessons starting in the third grade. By fifth grade, I also had the experience of ensemble playing in the school band. Music has always played a central role in my life and I, like many others am deeply indebted to the public education system and my teachers. Let us make sure that the current generation of students is afforded the same opportunities."
