EMILY ASHER

Weaving her identities and skills as a passionate educator and accomplished trombonist, vocalist and composer, Emily Asher is a powerful force in the classroom and on stage. Captivating the attention of audiences of all ages, Emily takes fun and play very seriously. Her students joyfully sing, play, and move and her audiences listen, laugh, and are moved. Her passion for creating unique and meaningful musical experiences for all is at the heart of her work. 

As a bandleader Emily has recorded five albums and plays nationwide with her hot jazz ensemble, Emily Asher’s Garden Party, and as a guest artist and clinician at festivals and events including the North Carolina Jazz Festival, the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, the New York Hot Jazz Festival and more. Called a trombonist and singer of "buoyant charm” by The New York Times and “a multi-talented powerhouse of jazz” by the Syncopated Times, Emily has collaborated and recorded with Wycliffe Gordon, Nicholas Payton and shared the stage with a wide variety of artists including Tony Bennett, Jon Batiste, Carol Burnett, Mø, Talib Kweli, Chaka Khan, Terri Lyne Carrington, and many others.

Originally from Seattle, Emily holds three Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Washington and a Master’s in Music Performance from CUNY Queens College. In 2022, she earned her National Board Teaching Certification with a focus on early and middle childhood vocal music.
